Error reads: EXT2-fs unable to locate superblock.

Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:41

I recently lent my PC to a former buddy and he was running Mandrake Linux on it. I was trying to kill Mandrake and load an Win OS back on it and was unsuccessful on removing Linux and getting the PC to load from CD. I tried everything I know, know I ask you, please help!

    Thanks,

I had problems like this with my Dell Inspiron 7500 Laptop, I ended up having to boot using a Win2000 or WinNT cd, and deleting the partitions using the setup... Hope this helps.

    Default Thanks

I tried a windows ME disk, I finally got it to boot from a CD, I still get a install error. I need to kill the hard drive and mandrake. Is there anyway to repartition the HD without a windows disk? The mandrake still comes up and lets me choose, linux, floppy, some kind of safe start up and something else, no matter what I choose I come up with the same error on inital post.

    Thanks for you input

The error on post: does it say something like the amount of system memory has changed, or the suspend to disk partition has been damaged??? if so, you will always get this error, its in the bios.... Also, in fdisk, try deleting the partitions from the bottom up, this will erase the extended partitions first.... ????
