    Question

Alright I'll just explain as much as I can, and somebody let me know if this can be done and how.

I have 2 hard drives, one with Windows Millenium and another with Windows 2000 Professional. I'm currently on the Win2k drive, the other is out of the case temporarily.

The Win2k drive is NTFS, the WinME is of course FAT32.

Now is there a way to dual boot with an option as to which OS to boot at startup?

If so, how would I setup the hard drives considering one would have to primary one would have to be slave, right?

    Default I *think*...

Make sure the Win2K volume is on ONLY NTFS. Set it as primary master. Put the Win9X volume anywhere else. Edit boot.ini, add under [Options]:
    "Microsoft Windows 9X"=D:\

That should do it. Since the Win2K volume is NTFS, the 9X drive can't read it, and so the bootstrap will kick over to the 9X drive if you ask it to, and then never look that way again (Until you reboot anyway).

Alright I did that.....here's the problem:

Just Win2k drive, loads Win2K - options at load up for win2k or winme, but no me drive...

Win2K drive primary master | WinME drive Secondary Master, loads WinME No Options

Win2k drive primary master | winME drive primary slave, loads winMe no options.

Now how can I have both of the drives in, and it loads off the win2k drive and gives me the option of dual booting?

    Any help would be awesome!

Alright a little update. It lets me dual boot ONLY when the win2k CD is in the drive, and I don't boot from it.....

Is there a way to make it do so w/o the CD?

If I remember correctly, you can rebuld the Boot Manager in 2000 by booting from the CD and selecting the 'Rapair' option. I know you can do this with NT4, so I would assume it would be the same in 2000. Now the only thing is which drive should be the Primary Master, as that will dictate what happens. On one hand, if you have the WinME drive as the bootable drive, then when you go to repair 2000 it will copy files to the drive and enable the boot menu, with both 2000 and ME as options. Actually, I think that might be the only way it will work...but I could be wrong! If you can experiment with it, without the fear of hosing the system, give that a shot...NERO!

Would U like 2 spend around $50 - $70 for a hard drive partition software?
If Yes, buy Partition Magic 5.0 (Power Quest - www.powerquest.com) or System Commander 2000 (V Communications - www.v-com.com), it will solve your problem.
    If Not, please visit:
http://www.cnet.com/software/0-3709....3709-7-2020717 if this link dosen't work: please go to CNET.com and go under software -> OS-es -> Double Your OS
