Ahh yes, finally I purchased linux. No more downloading hundreds of MB on a stupid AOL connection.
Windows For Linux seemed perfect for me. I would still want windows, but I wanted Linux on the same partition. Ahhhh, plain old happiness.
While browsing in CompUSA I come over to Windows For Linux, Mandrake Linux that does what I said above, installs Linux on the same Windows partition, with no formatting needed!
There I go, home happy, paying only $20.00 for 7.1 Mandrake. Oh well, 7.2 may be the newest, but how much of a difference can it be?
I open the box. There I find a regular software box. A Manual, a CD. I read the manuel, and do what it says.
I restart with the CD in the drive. I start the installation.
Whats this? An Error? How could it? It says on the cover easy installation and that it does support my computer. But could it be the CD? I test it on another computer. No, it isn't. What to do?
E-mail Tech Support, thats what. But you need to register to e-mail them. What the heck, I go ahead and register. It asks me computer information, personal information and my ISBN number. What's this, wrong ISBN number? It looks correct. Why, it is correct.
So, there I am, tech support free. With it being a holiday and all, I havent got an e-mail I sent to them about the problem with registration.
Oh well. Here I am sitting, hoping that right now I could be on my loving Linux, yes, just hoping.
Maybe tomorrow I will get a response. I pretty much am thinking that I won't get one.
Bye bye $20.
Just think, Linux and Windows, along with beOS. That would be my dream computer. Impossible you say? Think NOT!
I will accomplish my goal, whether I cannot eat for days. I will. I WILL. I CAN. I WILL. IF IT IS POSSIBLE I WILL DO IT. BECAUSE I AM...CHICKENMAN.
Okay, thats enough.
So I am still waiting for a response. Right now I could be playing Civilization, the game that comes with Linux. Too bad.

Linux was never created with the intention of running on Windows.. so I'm really not surprised, as I'm sure it's not an easy task to make one OS run under another.. (Though VMWare does this quite smoothly.)

hehe, there you go... first mistake was believing what you read on the box... I dunno having three different operating systems on the same partition is calling for trouble... especially with Linux... Windows and LInux just don't mix... let us know if you're ever successful though... good luck on your journey to operating system heaven...

You could also just use a utility like Partition Magic, and free up some of your windows partition, and convert it to ext2.. (or just free it up, and let mandrake do the rest when you install it.)
I think that would also be a more stable solutions (than running under windows..)

Multi-Offer!
say ... you can have both pristine copies i own of Partition Magic AND System Commander including disks and manuals for $50 as i never used them nor do i anticipate doing so. System Commander allows for multiple operating systems on one computer (up to 100 of them) and Partition Magic lets you repartition your Hard Drive on the fly without loosing your existing data. if you decide you are serious reply here and i'll email you as i don't publish my email on the web. (very security conscious, me) btw, these progs set me back $200+ when purchased.
