Me doesn't allow it to change(if you know how to please let me know), In 98,
Press shift as you right click to see open with... thing
open it with any image editing software & save it( see that it doesn't have readonly attrib)
I don't have slightest idea of it in Win2k

It's a bitmap.
It's generally logo.sys, sometimes winboot.sys...They're actually bitmap images, so open them manually in Paintbrush or something. Or, you could rename them to logo.bmp and then double-click it.
There's one for the startup, one for the shutdown process, and one for "It's safe to turn off your computer."
This is different for Win2K and NT, of course.

The closest I got was LOGOS.SYS and that was for the It Is Safe To Shutdown Windows graphic. I can't find the others.....any suggestions?

FWIW, I use tweakall. It allows you to change that pic from any sort of image, very, very easily.
Plus, it allows all sorts of other niffty things, and it's free (legally too :P )

Nevermind, found it. For those interested it's at 3DFiles.com under the utilities section. I'll make a post after I use it to let you know what I think....

i know that with 95/98 the files that you are looking for are logos.sys and logow.sys
and they should both be in your C:\windows dir.
now there is a size constraint that needs to be used so when you have the immage that you want to use, save it as 320x400 bmp. you will have to turn of the constrain proportions when you resize, the image will look scrunched up ..... this is good then all you should have to do is change to the name to logow.sys and move it to the windows dir and reboot to see if it worked
i use adobe 5.0

The files are as follows in win98, so you might check these.
logo.sys is in C:\
logos.sys is in C:\Windows
logow.sys is in C:\Windows
They may be the same in ME so it may be worth a look. Also make sure you have show all files selected in the folder options because they are hidden files. If you still can't find them, do find files logo*.* Good luck.

sometimes logo.sys is embedded into io.sys, therefore you need to create a logo.sys from scratch and put into the root of your drive, i.e. c:\
