I've got $225 to burn with Toshiba, and I was considering getting a 4-port KVM switch and also that Visioneer 4400USB flatbed scanner. I've looked through most of the FAQs and HOWTOs regarding USB support for this thing, but nobody really has a definite answer on this scanner in particular. Also, the Logitech QuickCam USB (Actually a Connectix-model) has experimental support.
I'm not really asking about whether or not this is supported (Although if you have information in that regards, great!). What I would like to see, however, is your general experience using Linux with USB devices. Good? Bad? Ugly? Report the dirty details here! Be sure to include your motherboard model, as different implementations and host controllers may have problems as opposed to others (You KT7 owners out there may know what I'm talking about... ).

I myself have never tested USB on this motherboard (KT133A chipset), but a friend of mine who's mobo has the same chipset, has great USB support under Linux. Currently he's got his Handspring PDA and Sony digital camera connected to his comp. No problems at all. I also know a few people who use USB mice under Linux with no problems at all.

KT133. I've used usb for my hp Deskjet printer. It worked great until I would unplug it. Even when plugged back into the same usb port, I would loose it. However, then what I would do is delete the printer and just add it again, and it was there and would work. I have been unable to find any drivers for my visioneer 8100 scanner, and Linux will not find it. My webcam doesn't work either, but then again, it barely works in windows.
From my understanding, getting usb to work has not to do with usb support but with the individule part driver support. So I think Linux supports usb, but you still need drivers.
