Introduction
More and more cellphones today are adding new features in an attempt to woo customers to upgrade phones to the latest, greatest model. Usually these features are hard to use or just plain not useful. For instance, if I wanted to, I could take my Nokia 6161 and add phonebook entries for all of my friends so that when they called, their names would show up onscreen, and I'd be able to easily identify the caller. Unfortunately, entering this data in on a phone keypad is cumbersome, and provides very little benefit for the time investment.
On the other hand, I could just carry my PDA with me wherever I go, and look up phone entries. Still, I have to manually dial the phone number, and I can't easily operate both devices at the same time. I have to look up the phone number on the PDA, set it down, and then pick up the phone and carefully dial the number. Hopefully the screen glare won't be a problem (Since I have my PDA lying on my knee at a quite different angle from where my phone is), and hopefully, I'll be able to successfully key in the phone number before my PDA automatically powers off.
Kyocera has a solution for all of these problems with its SmartPhone QCP-6035. Unlike the other models in the SmartPhone series, the 6035 has a built-in Palm-based PDA, allowing you to carry one functional device instead of two. But the fun doesn't stop there...
Features
The QCP-6035 isn't the first Palm-based PDA to have a cellphone built-in, but it's rather uncommon to see these in your local cellphone store, so you've probably missed it. The 6035 is actually the successor to Qualcomm's pQ 800, a slightly slimmer black phone that was introduced about a year before the introduction of the 6035. One of the chief complaints people had with the pQ was its poor specifications as a Palm-based PDA. With that in mind, let's take a look at how the Kyocera fares.

- Supports Palm OS web clipping applications to trade stocks with online brokers, find movie times and locations, and view up-to-date flight-arrival times

- Tri-mode: CDMA digital PCS, CDMA digital cellular and analog-three modes of network coverage to keep you connected virtually anywhere
- Includes voice services like a speakerphone, voice memo and voice dialing
- Offers 11 ringer types and vibrate alert when an audible alert is inappropriate

The Kyocera contains a faster core processor (The venerable 33MHz Dragonball) and the full-sized 2 MB flash ROM space. Many complained with the pQ that it wasn't capable of handling PalmOS upgrades. Though you generally won't do many phone upgrades on the QCP-6035, it's within the generally accepted outline of standard Palm characteristics. It also features 8 MB of user RAM for installing extra apps and your ever-burgeoning database of phone contacts...because let's face it - If you're getting a cellPDA, then you're probably wanting the ease of one-click phone dialing and other similar address book features.
