Call of Duty Review

Introduction

As you all know WWII games just keep on coming, some are good and some are not. Call of Duty is one of the greatest WWII games to ever come out and is one of the most popular games in the gaming world. The team oriented and realistic style draws players in for addictive fun. CoD is the best WWII game I have seen that really brings out the WWII battle experience and believe me, Ive seen a lot. For those of you who have not experienced the pleasure of playing this awesome game, I am going to tell you just how great this game really is.

Gameplay

Unlike most WWII games there are more teams, its not just a case of allies being american and axis being german. In Call of Duty, Allies consist of American, British, and Russian troops. In the single player mode, you will go through a series of campaigns througout the 82nd Airborne to a drafted russian peasent.

As you move on in the levels, you go into different countries armies unlocking different parts of the war and all new weapons. In both multiplayer and single player modes, you will race to control Europe with 24 different weapons.

Call of Duty's motto is "no one fights alone" and that is kept throughout the entire game. The missions are almost all squad based, except for a couple of sabatoge missions where your buddies wait to pick you up after your done blowing some stuff up.

Throughout the game you will use your squad for covering fire and clearing out buildings. The AI is pretty smart, so you wont be battling mindless bots.

Another thing that makes this game stand out is the realisticness, the gun and player models are all very nicely done and it actually looks amazingly real when you look at a teammate. Firing while crouching he looks like he is aiming and the bullets whizz in to the ground, the reloading action is pretty realistic to.

The best feature in this game that really makes it above all others, is the "look down the barrel" action. Right mouse click will bring the gun up to the screen, so you are looking down the gun site. The sites are historically accurate so you are aiming as a real soldier would have done. Its very nice for longer range shooting, also when you look down the barrel your firing becomes more accurate, so you are more likely to hit an enemy while doing that.

Graphics and Sound

When I first played CoD the models amazed me, they kind of looked odd when they run, but when they are firing in different positions it just distracts you at how good the models simulate what it really looks like. Also depending on which map and weapon you have you get a different model. For example, if you are a german rifleman you will have camoflague.

Ever played a game where you would go into a dark area, where if you had even the slightest glare, or even without a glare, you couldn't see? Well thats another thing I love about Call of Duty. There are no extrememly dark spaces, the shadows and dark textures are very well put in without making them pitch black to the point that you cannot see in that area at all. Its just to the point where in multiplayer, a body could hide and you'd have to take a second glace before you realize someones there.

Another cool feature is turning blood on and off. If you do not like to see a blood splatter when you shoot someone, then just turn it off. When you turn the blood on, its just a small splatter of red, so its no too gory.

Call of Duty has totally amazing sound. The guns give off sharp sounds and each of them are unique. After a couple times of playing, you can tell the different types of gunfire apart. This is very helpful and can tell you if you are being shot at by a sniper. Not only can you tell the difference between sounds, you can tell from which direction its coming from. Its not to the point of surround sound, but its pretty dang good. If you like games with awesome graphics and sound, this is the game for you!

Multiplayer

I thought that this review needed a section specifically going over the multiplayer aspect of the game.

Firstly, let me go over the basic muliplayer information. Total(not counting customs), there are fifteen different maps, with different settings, styles, models, and even teams. Depending on the map, the teams might be American vs. German, another might be Russian vs German, and the last combination is Britain vs German. Also dependent on the map is the style of the player models. For snow maps, you get snow suits, forest is camoflague, etc.

There are also six different game modes. You are all familiar with the deathmatch and team deathmatch, but there are new, very exciting modes to it also, including headquarters (destroy the enemy radio to win), search and destroy (objective based), and retrieval (a one-sided capture the flag). So if team deathmatch just doesnt seem like its for you anymore try one of those other great modes and you will be there for hours.

As most first person shooters these days, Call of Duty has a quickchat built in. Pressing "V" will bring up a list of categories, you will select one and it will give you more options on what command or request to give. This is very helpful if you memorize them as you wont need to type as much and considering CoD is highly based on squads, you will need this alot.

CoD's multiplayer is also great because the mood of the server you are on could change in a second. One minute you are having a massive firefight, then the next minute its quite. Players go from being Rambo's to quiet snipers, to strategists. It will keep you on your feet.

Conclusion

Today, Call of Duty is one of the most popular online games in the world. The price for CoD had lowered and if you haven't gotten to play this great work of art, you should go down to your nearest videogame supplier and check it out. It garuntees hours of fun and quality time with your computer.

For those of you who are reading this review and thinking "I dont want to play this game because its about WWII, and old warefare is boring", then think again. If the CoD just isnt enough, there are three or four modern warefare mods for it as well. You can find these mods at www.planetcallofduty.com

I just thought those of you who have not seen this game before should take a look at what you are missing out on.
