Nero CD-DVD Speed
To take a closer look at the drive’s specification and performance, we used Nero CD-DVD Speed. For this benchmark, we used the Valentine DVD for DVD Reading Purposes.

Judging by the graph already, you can tell that the read speed of the Memorex is a bit lacking. Now, we go into details of the results….
Average Read Speeds:

The LG managed to read at the fastest rate. It started at 3.37x and ended at 8.01x, making it a faster DVD Reader than the TDK 440N and the Memorex Dual-X Drive. This was quite a surprise, since I expected much more performance from TDK, but I applaud the LG GSA-4040B for its superior performance.
Although it is apparent that the read rate of the Memorex Dual-X is about 2x, I tested it with DVD Video playback and there were no problems (no lag anything of the sort). The same goes for the TDK 440N and the LG GSA-4040B
Seek Times:

Again, the Memorex drive seems to be slowest in reading when seeking. The TDK and LG are pretty much evenly tied.
CPU Usage:
The Memorex Dual Format Drive’s results show that it uses 100% of the CPU when reading at 8x and 4x, which is quite draining for the CPU if you’re only reading at 4x. The Memorex Dual Format Drive does ok when reading at 1x and 2x, but the results from there on show a high CPU utilization.
The TDK 440N performed the best when reading at 1x, 2x, and 4x. Like the Memorex Dual Format Drive, the 440N uses 100% of the CPU when reading at 8x, which sets the scale of the average CPU usage when reading at 8x.
The LG came on top with only using 59% of the CPU when reading at 8x. However, the TDK 440N managed to beat the LG GSA-4040B when reading at speeds of 1x, 2x, and 4x. However, the GSA-4040B still managed to use less CPU when reading at 8x and 4x. The LG’s mediocre CPU Utilization is compensated for its lower CPU Utilization when reading at 8x.
