    Introduction

When anyone mentions Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), many people think of Palm or Palm Pilots. PDAs used to be the expensive toys of the corporate elite, but during the last couple of years the PDA market has been reaching into the mainstream. New contenders have surfaced in Sony, Handspring, and the PocketPC based handhelds. Handspring in particular has brought quality PDAs to the masses. Their Visor line of PDAs has made the PDA revolution in the last year or so possible. Originally cheaper than Palm handhelds, Visors also had the SpringBoard expansion slot which gave their PDAs the versatility to be upgraded into various other devices. The Visor line has evolved from the original Visor and Visor Deluxe to the new Color Visor Prism and Visor Platinum. Plagued by shortages and reports of poor customer service, the early months when the Visor was released were a trial for the company and it's customers. Handspring has upped their quality since then, and you can even find Visors in various retail outfits online.

The Visor Platinum is basically the big brother of the Visor Deluxe. The Platinum has a faster processor, sharper display, and updated operating system. It's Handspring's stab at the Palm V and VII markets. Although it's the same size and weight as the Visor Deluxe, the new metallic silver color makes it more for the corporate professional. This review will take a look at my impressions of the Platinum, how it compares to Palm handhelds and the Visor Deluxe, and the weaknesses of this seemingly great product.
