    TechXNY 2004 PCExpo

Bottom Line: The last time I visited TechXNY, PCExpo then, the show almost filled the entire floor space in the Javits Center. Three years later, and with several conferences pulling the plug, I was surprised to see the show shrink to almost half the size I remembered. With two major conferences pulling out I was hoping for a stronger showing here even if DititalLife was just around the corner.

    Fijitsu and National Cristina

Moving towards a digital office, we all need a dependable and smart scanner. Fijitsu’s ScanSnap was developed along those lines with the ability to scan documents straight to PDF files. Not only is the unit compact, it is fast. It is able to scan up to 15 double sided pages a minute at 150 dpi color/300 dpi black and white. The unit also comes bundled with Adobe Acrobat 6 Standard and a nifty little program that allows you to view your PDF’s in thumbnail view. Coming in under $500 puts a unit such as this out of reach of the average home user, but if you could afford it, you could pretty much save anything up to an A4 sized document digitally.

    National Cristina Foundation

In this day and age it is not hard to loose sight of those less fortunate, those that may never taste the joy of launching their first site, roasting their first pinky demon or being spoilt by a spellchecker. The NCF serves as the interconnect between us and those in need of our old and unused hardware. If you have working hardware collecting dust around the house and would like to help, stop by the NCF site for more information on how to get it to them.
