    Plextor 12/10/32A CD-RW Review
    November 11th, 2000

The joy of burning a CD is at it's max when you're ripping through an image file to a CD in 7 minutes, that is for now, who knows when they're going to come out with 100X burners and 400X CD-ROM's, probably never, but it never hurts to dream. But for now, the fastest burner us IDE freaks can buy is the PlexWriter 12/10/32A. CD-RW's came a long way since we were sitting in amazement at 1 and 2X machines that could supposedly write information to an entire CD... 650MB people! That's probably how we feel today about the new DVD-RW's. Technology's great, isn't it? Anyway, back to the topic at hand, the PlexWriter 12/10/32A has been sitting in our lab (actually, in my machine) for the past month and we have been laborously benchmarking and testing it by ripping every file we have on our hard drives to CD's. Our CD media costs alone were astronomical! Plextor is known throughout the industry as the best of the best in regards to their astonishingly fast (for the times) SCSI CD-RW's and Cd-ROM's. But this time around, they have decided that there is a good use for IDE and that is for fast burners and since IDE is the format of choice for most desktop computers, it is a good market segment to target with a new product. The 12/10/32A is known as an IDE CD-RW because of the "A" at the end, it's SCCSI counterpart, the 12/4/32 is also well known but it's fan have been irked that the IDE unit has a rewrite rating 3X greater than the SCSI version. Today, a system is not complete without a decent CD-RW and a high end system isn't complete without a fast CD-RW. Guess which CD-RW most sites use for their dream systems?
